Chelsea will gather all the facts before taking any
action on John Obi Mikel's arrest
Chelsea will wait to gather all the facts before
taking any action against John Obi Mikel after he was arrested and charged with
drink-driving in the early hours of Saturday.
The 21-year-old was pulled over by police officers in West London at 5.30am on
the day of Chelsea’s victory over Ipswich Town in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Nigeria international was not in the squad for that game because he was
suspended after accruing five bookings, but he trained yesterday and is
available to face Middlesbrough tonight.
The club will examine all the facts before deciding what, if any, internal
punishment he will face, says The Times.
Possible sentences for drink-driving include a fine, a driving ban and a
maximum of six months in jail.
Mikel, who lives in Surrey, was bailed to appear at West London Magistrates
Court on April 3, the day before Chelsea play Newcastle United at St James Park.
